WJ Burley 1914 - 2002
Born in Falmouth in 1914 Burley originally worked for a local gas company before applying to do a degree in zoology at Balliol, Oxford. Two years after his first teaching post he returned to Cornwall to become Head of Biology at Newquay Grammar School and when the school was closed down moved with the pupils to Newquay Tretherras School. Having settled with his family in Holywell he started to write and in 1966 wrote A Taste of Power and in 1968 The Three Toed Pussy, the first of his 22 Wycliffe novels. John Burley died while working on Wycliffe's Last Lap which would have been the 23rd novel featuring Charles Wycliffe.
